East Central Oklahoma University Men’s Cross Country Places Seventh at Central Regional Championships

The East Central University men’s cross-country team competed in the 2022 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships in Joplin, MO this morning. As a team, ECU placed seventh overall out of 30 teams, finishing first out of all the GAC schools represented at the meet.
 
A total of seven Tigers ran the meet today, with three runners finishing in the top 25 and two in the top 100.
 
Oliver Kiptoo paved the way for the Tigers in the 10k race with a time of 29:35.5 to give him a 10th-placeth place finish. Amos Pkiach, the GAC Runner of the year, was close behind, placing 16th with a time of 29:49.2. Micheal Iyali finished strong at the meet crossing the line at the 30:18.0 mark to finish 24th overall. This was the first appearance in the Central Region meet for the three runners.
 
Troy Wiles had the next fastest time for the Tigers coming in 63rd with a time of 31:09.02. Wiles was able to top his previous time by 1 minute and 59 seconds from last year’s showing. Gilberto Palomo was the fifth Tiger to finish, coming in 79th place with a time of 3:23.99.

Maverick Stephenson and Matthew Norton rounded out the strong ECU effort, finishing 162nd and 190th with a time of 33:11.81 and 35:13.89, respectively.
