Junior Dana Guzman notched the singles title at the Big 12 Fall Invite to close the squad's fall season in Stillwater, Okla., on Sunday.
Guzman racked up four-straight wins against opponents from Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Kansas and Iowa State. The junior locked in the title after defeating Ayumi Miyamoto (OSU) 6-2, 6-2.
Advancing to the semifinals, newcomer Romana Cisovska grabbed three wins in her Sooner debut, taking down Yekaterina Dmitrichenko (TTU) 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals to earn her spot.
Sophomore Emma Staker found herself in the semifinals after defeating Olivia Peet (TTU) 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Ivana Corley racked up a win over Anita Sahdiieva (BU) 6-3, 6-4 and Alexandra Pisareva grabbed the 6-2, 7-5 win over Alina Shcherbinina (BU) to advance to the quarterfinals.
In doubles, Guzman and Staker took a 6-1 win over Kansas' Costache/Ngounoue in the round of 16. Cisovska and Pisareva defeated Manyoma Velasquez/Sadler (KU) 6-1 in the round of 16 and Nagato/Kucharova (WVU) 6-4 in the consolation quarterfinals.
The squad split time in Stillwater and San Diego, Calif., where freshman Julia Garcia Ruiz qualified for the National Fall Championships. The newcomer opened the tournament with a ranked win over No. 59 Marlee Zein (UT), 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, but fell to No. 58 Mary Stoiana (TAMU) 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 16.
