Murray State College Lady Aggies blow past SW Christian in 2nd half

Coming off a grueling road swing through Arkansas and Louisiana, it took a while for the Murray State Lady Aggies to get rolling Tuesday night before pulling away in the second half for a 67-43 win over visiting Southwestern Christian.

Now 4-2 on the season, the preseason league favorite Lady Aggies open conference action next on Thursday when they play host to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at Beames Fieldhouse on Toys for Tots Night.

Murray State led only 13-11 in the opening moments of the second period before stringing together a 10-0 flurry spurred by three-pointers from Bella Peterson and Jade Millan. Peterson notched five points in that span that propelled the Lady Aggies to a 31-21 advantage at intermission.

Cristina Laudan tossed in four straight points to begin the second half and McKenna Johnson ended the quarter with four straight as well while Murray State pulled away to a 51-28 lead through three quarters. Payton James, Millan and Tamara Fournillier-Onadeko all connected on long treys as the Lady Aggies opened it up.

Shooting was a little sporadic for Murray State as they canned 26 of 63 field goal attempts for 41 percent for the game, including 25 percent (7 of 28) on three-pointers.

Three Lady Aggies reached double figures as Millan, Peterson and Johnson all posted 11 points. James and Fournillier-Onadeko tallied eight apiece with Lanie Gooch pitching in six as well as five each by Laudan and Teniola Okunrinkoya. Austyn Wright and Paige Taylor both finished with two points.

Gooch turned in a team-high nine rebounds with Millan pulling down six. Peterson also dished out four assists.
