The Murray State Aggies held a four-point lead with five and a half minutes to play but eight straight empty possessions proved fatal as host Northern Oklahoma College-Enid rode a 13-0 flurry in the closing minutes to a 68-61 conference victory Monday night.
Freddie Cooper's three-pointer from the right corner put the Aggies in front 56-52 but five turnovers and three missed shots left Murray State scoreless over a nearly four-minute stretch while the Jets rallied and pulled away.
The Aggies held a 31-30 halftime advantage on the strength of the one-two punch of Dayten Holman and Stanley Harley, who tallied 22 points of that total while combining for five three-pointers. That duo led the charge in the second half as well with nobody else accounting for more than four down the stretch run.
Holman notched a team-high 21 points as well as 15 rebounds with Harley adding 18 points as Murray State dipped to 6-5 on the season and 0-2 in league action. A.J. Richard scored seven with Kameron Johnson chipping in four and Cooper three while T.J. Gardner, Kyle Tolbert, Boone and Brian Fuery all finished with two points. Boone also posted six rebounds.
Murray State connected on 10 of 23 three-pointers (44 percent) but was unable to overcome 21 turnovers.
