Western Oklahoma State College Former Pioneers qualified for the NFR

The rodeo team at Western Oklahoma State College has a proud heritage of athletes continuing to showcase their talent on a professional stage. With the 2022 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) season coming to an end, six former Pioneers, along with current WOSC rodeo coach Jess Tierney, have qualified for their respective world championship events.

The National Finals Steer Roping will be held at the Kanas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas on November 4-5. Former Pioneer, Cole Patterson, and Coach Tierney will be competing in the steer roping event. Patterson is a 4-time qualifier, the 2021 World and NFSR Average Champion, and the 2019 PRCA/ Resistol Rookie of the Year. Coach Tierney is a 10-time qualifier and enters the competition ranked third in the world.

The next event will be the National Finals Breakaway Roping on November 29-30 in South Point Arena and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas. Former Pioneer and 3-time NFBR qualifier, Martha Angelone sets her sights on maintaining her world number one ranking.

Lastly, the 2022 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo will be December 1-10 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. Four former members of the WOSC rodeo team will be competing. Competing in the tie downing roping is the 2019 World and NFR Average Champion, Haven Meged. Meged is also a 4-time qualifier, the 2021 Reserve World Champion, and the 2019 PRCA/ Resistol Rookie of the Year.

Andrew Ward will be competing in team roping as a header. Ward is a 3-time NFR qualifier and the 2021 NFR Average Winner. Trevor Kastner will be competing in bull riding and is a 7-time NFR qualifier. Kyle Irwin will be competing in steer wrestling. Irwin is a 7-time NFR qualifier and was the 2014 Reserve World Champion.
