Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) issued a statement following the resignation of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. Cheatle announced her resignation after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
“One of the fundamental duties of the Legislative Branch is to provide a check and balance on the role and power of Washington. Yesterday, when Chairman James Comer and the House Oversight Committee held a hearing to investigate the security failures that occurred at President Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which ultimately led to the resignation of Secret Service Director Cheatle, they were exercising that right,” said Congressman Cole.
“I would like to thank my colleagues on the House Oversight Committee who provided much-needed accountability and transparency into this issue, as it is imperative that we get to the bottom of the unacceptable missteps that happened in Pennsylvania on that day so that we can ensure this never happens again in the future,” said Congressman Cole.
