Murray State College Aggies Snap Skid in Soccer Sweep at NEO

The Murray State men's soccer team snapped a four-game skid and women's squad won for the fourth time in last five games as the Aggies notched a conference sweep on the road at NEO on Wednesday.

It was another dominant showing by the Lady Aggies, especially on the defensive end where they posted their second straight shutout and third in the past four outings spurred by goalkeeper Mia King in 4-0 whitewashing.

Murray State's offense took a bit to get going against the defensive-minded Lady Norse before Trinity Krauss punched in a goal off a Myah Evans assist in the 22nd minute for a 1-0 advantage, which they took the halftime break.

The Lady Aggies controlled the ball throughout the second half as Krauss added another goal seven minutes in and notched the hat trick three minutes later with assists coming from Aiden Manning and Evans.

Kaylee Foster tallied the final goal in the 64th minute off an assist from Kelsey Cooper. NEO managed a few counter attacks but was turned away each time by the strong defensive performance with King recording six saves.

"The girls did well controlling the pace of the game," head coach Gary Akin stated. "We continued staying organized and being patient while generating scoring chances. They are improving each week and that's what we are really looking for."

In the men's action it was a tight, defensive slugfest throughout with the Aggies recording the only goal of the game in the final minutes for the 1-0 win to snap the four-game skid.

Cesar Solis powered through a penalty kick in the 85th minute of the contest and proved to be the game-winner as Murray State stifled the Norsemen the remainder of the game. Sophomore Melvin Bonilla was in goal and stopped the only shot on goal that NEO could get off in the entire game against a stingy Aggie defensive unit.

The Murray State women will be back home Sunday for a 2 p.m. matchup against Seminole State before both teams hit the road again on Wednesday for a tough rematch at NOC-Tonkawa.
