Murray State College Total Student Enrollment Increases, Anticipated to Be Among Top Colleges

Murray State College’s final preliminary enrollment report for the fall 2022 semester reflects an increase in both student headcount and credit hours. Student enrollment increased by 5% and credit hours by 2%.

The Tishomingo campus increased by almost 200 students. Academic and activity programs contributed to the increase, as well as a focus on providing high quality student experiences.

“We have worked hard in the last year to create a positive culture in housing, student life and academic support,” said Becky Henthorn, Murray State College’s Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs.

Students who spent the end of their high school years without any interaction (because of COVID) are seeking out the traditional campus culture, combined with the convenience of courses offered with modern technology. As evidence that the strategy is working, Murray State housing is at 100% capacity.

“Murray is in that sweet spot because we can give them the culture and opportunities that they desire,” Henthorn said.

Murray State started classes one week early, so not all Oklahoma institutions have reported their preliminary enrollment numbers; however, college enrollment leaders anticipate that Murray will be among the colleges and universities with the largest enrollment increases for fall 2022. With this increase, Murray enrollment has surpassed pre-COVID enrollment by more than 145 new students.

“There are many people who do a lot of good and work very hard on behalf of our college; they deserve the credit,” said Dr. Tim Faltyn, Murray State College President. “Anytime we can accomplish our goal of bringing more students to our excellent college, then It’s a Great Day to Be an Aggie!”
