East Central Oklahoma University Women’s Basketball Picked Seventh in GAC Preseason Poll

The Great American Conference announced Wednesday afternoon the results of its 2022-23 women's basketball preseason coaches' poll. East Central University has been picked seventh out of twelve.

Last year, ECU claimed the No. 5 seed at the GAC Tournament Championship and saw the season come to an end with a 79-66 loss in the quarterfinals against Henderson State University.

The Tigers return eight athletes from the 2021-22 roster that finished 15-12 overall and 12-10 in GAC play. Of the eight, four players received either All-GAC or GAC Academic Accolades – Kate Ogle, Mackenzie Crusoe, Gabby Cummins, and Izzy Cummins.

Ogle shot 37.4 percent from the 3-point arc and reached double figures eight times last season to help her claim GAC Newcomer of the Year. She also led the team in blocked shots with 18.

Crusoe earned All-GAC Second Team honors for the first time in her career. She led the team in scoring, rebounding, and steals and ranked 10th in the GAC in minutes played with a total of 897 minutes.

The Cummins sisters were two of five players named GAC Elite Scholar-Athletes, representing those participating in the tournament with a high GPA and 72 credit hours completed. They both had perfect 4.0 GPA's. Izzy finished second on the team in steals and third in assists per game while Gabby finished with a .385 field goal percentage and .778 free throw percentage.

The East Central University women's basketball team will begin the 2022-23 season Friday, Nov. 18 against Texas Woman's University at 3:30 p.m. in the Ashbrook Classic hosted by Midwestern State University.
