Murray State College Soccer teams drop 1-0 verdicts to Eastern

A pair of tight defensive battles went the way of Eastern Oklahoma State College on Sunday as the Murray State soccer teams each dropped 1-0 decisions in conference play.

The narrow loss finished off an extremely busy week for the Lady Aggies, who were playing for the fourth time in eight days.

On Tuesday, they dropped a 2-1 road decision at University of Arkansas Rich Mountain, and then battled to a 2-2 deadlock with Redlands on Thursday. In the Redlands' contest, Murray State got a goal from Aimee Steele off a Trinity Krauss assist as well as another by Lily Humes that was assisted by Kelsey Cooper.

Against Eastern, the visitors controlled possession throughout the opening half of play but the Lady Aggie defense held off the attack virtually the entire half. The Lady Mountaineers punched through one goal however, which ended up being decisive. Jimena Guevara was solid in goal, making nine saves for the Lady Aggies.

"The girls made great adjustments at halftime and came out in the second half pushing into the attack and generating many more scoring opportunities," head coach Gary Akin said. "We missed a few that I thought we should have finished and the Eastern goalkeeper made some very good saves to hold us at bay."

The story was much the same in the men's action against Eastern as a first half goal stood up throughout for the victory.

Both teams will close out a very busy two-week stretch at Crowder College in Missouri on Wednesday and then return for the home finale next Wednesday against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
