Murray State College Women’s soccer team blasts NEO on Sophomore Day

After a tight first half the Murray State Lady Aggies exploded offensively over the final 45 minutes to cruise to a 6-0 win over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to celebrate Sophomore Day with a victory in the home finale.

Picking up their sixth win of the season, Murray State prepped for the upcoming region tournament in style with one game left on the road Sunday at fourth-rated Seminole State. Playoff action is set to begin on Thursday.

The Lady Aggies held just a 1-0 lead at the half before erupting with five goals after intermission to cruise to their second shutout of the season over the Lady Norse.

"We were able to possess the ball and control the pace of the game from the outset," head coach Gary Akin commented. "The girls did a very good job being patient and picking their shots. We were happy with the way the girls performed. They were able to make a few adjustments at half and capitalized on those in the second half. It was a great way to end our home season on Sophomore Day."

Kelsey Cooper's goal off a Myah Evans assist proved to be the lone score in the first half even though the Lady Aggies dominated possession of the ball in the offensive end throughout.

Murray State came out firing after the intermission break as Cooper punched in two more scores, the second of which came off an Aimee Steele assist, for the offensive hat trick. Steele recorded a goal of her own aided by a Lily Humes assist, Rae Wylie fed Myah Evans for another score and Cooper pitched in an assist that went to Cal Keene.

Jimena Guevara and Mia King split duty in the goal combining for five saves and the clean sheet.
