East Central Oklahoma University Volleyball Trio Earns All-GAC Honors

On the eve of the 2022 Volleyball Great American Conference Championship, the East Central University volleyball team saw three players claim 2022 Great American Conference honors as the league announced its all-conference teams and yearly award winners on Wednesday.

  • Emma Strickland  – All-GAC First Team
  • Alejandra Delgado – All-GAC Honorable Mention / Distinguished Scholar
  • Leah Lawson – All-GAC Honorable Mention

Strickland received an all-conference accolade for the second season in a row after landing a spot on the All-GAC Second Team last season. The Mansfield, TX native has been a key offensive weapon for the Tigers this season as she is currently ranked second in the league in kills with 446 and points per set with 4.26. The First Team member was nominated as the GAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14th and became the new record holder at ECU for kills in a single season on Nov. 4th.

 

Delgado is now a two-time all-conference nominee with her All-GAC Honorable Mention selection. The Cidra, Puerto Rico native has been a strong defensive presence for the Tigers this season, garnering 518 digs so far. Her 5.23 digs per set currently rank her third in the GAC. Delgado also represented ECU as one of 22 total GAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes that advanced to the 2022 tournament.

 

Lawson earned the first all-conference honor of her career with a selection to the All-GAC Honorable Mention Team. The Arlington, TX native earned GAC Setter of the Week nominations twice this season and surpassed the 1,000-career assist mark on Oct. 22. She is also ranked in two GAC categories, one being No. 3 in aces with 51, averaging .44 per set, and the other No. 5 in assists with 970, averaging 8.36 per set.
