Eastern Oklahoma State College Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Softball raise money for school lunch debts

The Eastern Oklahoma State College chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Eastern softball team recently presented a check worth more than $1,600 to Wilburton Public Schools to pay for students’ past-due lunch bills.

“I love our community,” said Melissa Junell, Eastern FCA sponsor and cheerleading coach. “This fundraiser was so much fun because it gave our student-athletes the opportunity to see how supportive our little community really is. Thank you to Eastern Softball for partnering with FCA to make this happen.”

FCA members and softball players collected donations in front of Roy’s Cardinal Food Store two days per week during the month of October. The students raised more than $1,300 from donations and the club donated $300, as well.

“We believe in serving the community and helping bridge the gap between Eastern and the beautiful city in which we live,” Junell said. “We would like to thank everyone who donated during our drive and Joe Coy and the crew at Roy’s Cardinal Food Store for giving us a place to set up. We would also like to thank Eastern softball coaches Kendra and Anthony Whisenhunt for their leadership and support.”
