Cameron University The Aggies Hold off the Bulldogs

Cameron would go on the road and take down Southwestern Oklahoma State 71-65. The Aggies would only have four players record a point in the game, scoring double figures.

Korie Allensworth scored a game-high 22 points, Katie King chipped in 18 points, Karley Miller added 17, and Kailyn Lay scored 14 points.

The Black-and-Gold improved to .500 on the season, at 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the Lone Star Conference. Cameron made 45.6 percent of shots in the game while hitting 10-20 three-pointers. CU would lead the game from tip to the final buzzer.

Lay had a team-high seven assists, King and Miller recorded two, and Kloe Heidebrecht added one assist.

Miller recorded a double-double grabbing 13 rebounds. LaKya Leslie pulled in nine, Allensworth snagged four, King recorded three, Taliyah Johnson and Lay grabbed two, and Hallie Horton and Alannah Gillespie added one.

King swiped four steals, Lay grabbed two, and Johnson, Leslie, Kiara Lovings, and Miller had one steal.

The Aggies jumped out to an early 8-0 lead behind two King three-pointers and a jumper by Allensworth. CU's defense would lockdown the Lady Bulldogs for four minutes with no baskets, and they would build a 13-4 lead. Over the final 3:29, both teams would start hitting shots, as Cameron would hold a 9-8 advantage during that time, closing the opening frame with a 22-12 lead.

The Black-and-Gold opened the first three minutes of the second quarter with a 4-0 run. During the next five minutes of the frame, Cameron would stretch their lead to 38-17 after a 16-4 run in the quarter. SWOSU closed the first half on a 6-1 run, cutting the deficit to 39-23 at the break.

To open the second half, CU and Southwestern both hit two shots early. Ninety seconds into the half, Cameron would lead 44-27. The Aggies would be held off the scoreboard for almost six minutes. Miller snapped the drought with 2:43 to play with a layup to give CU a 46-36 lead. SWOSU closed the quarter by trimming the gap to eight points, with Cameron holding a 51-43 lead.

The Aggies stormed to a 13-point lead after a 7-2 surge. The Lady Bulldogs would answer back with a 6-0 rally. Southwestern cut the score to a single possession at 66-63 with 1:06 to play after a 9-3 stretch. SWOSU would miss 3-of-4 shots over the final minute, while Cameron closed the game by hitting 3-of-4 free throws to close out the game 71-65.
