Congressman Tom Cole has expressed his sorrow over the death of Neal McCaleb, a respected figure in Oklahoma and within the Chickasaw Nation. Cole described McCaleb as a "friend, political ally, and fellow Chickasaw," acknowledging his contributions to public service and personal achievements.
McCaleb's career spanned various roles, including serving twice as Oklahoma’s Secretary of Transportation under Governors Henry Bellmon and Frank Keating. He also held the position of Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs during George W. Bush's presidency. Within the Chickasaw Nation, McCaleb served in multiple capacities and was honored as a member of the Chickasaw Hall of Fame.
Cole highlighted their shared history in state government, noting that McCaleb recruited his mother to run for the state legislature in the 1970s. They later worked together on transportation projects and legislative matters when both served in Governor Keating's cabinet.
Reflecting on McCaleb's legacy, Cole said he admired him for his wisdom and political acumen. He extended condolences to McCaleb's wife Georgiann, family, friends, and colleagues.
