Today, Congressman Tom Cole announced his support for the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act by voting in favor of H.R. 35. This legislation aims to provide law enforcement and border patrol with enhanced tools to penalize those who evade capture at the border.
Cole highlighted the tragic incident involving a border patrol agent named Raul Gonzalez, who died during a high-speed chase near the southern border in 2022. "In 2022, a border patrol agent in Texas named Raul Gonzalez lost his life in a high-speed chase near the southern border. While this should have never happened in the first place, we must now do all we can to prevent similar tragedies in the future," said Congressman Cole.
The proposed act seeks to increase penalties on individuals attempting to flee from border patrol agents. According to Cole, "Under the Trump Administration and Republican-controlled Congress, we are sending a message to cartels and illegal aliens that they will be held accountable for their recklessness."
