Using hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol helps reduce the spread of germs, but caution should be taken when using hand sanitizer around kids. Swallowing more than a couple mouthfuls of alcohol-based hand sanitizers can cause alcohol poisoning.
Hand sanitizers should be:
Stored out of reach and sight of children.
Used with adult supervision.
Call Poison Control, 1-800-222-1222, if you think a child has been poisoned but they are awake and alert. Call 911 if you have a poison emergency or a child is not breathing.
