Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement in remembrance of his D.C. intern, Luke Wienecke, after his passing on Friday, May 12, 2023. Wienecke was a native Oklahoman from Oklahoma City and recently completed his sophomore year at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

“I am heartbroken to learn of the tragic loss of Luke Wienecke,” said Cole. “Luke interned in my personal office in D.C. since January and was set to transition to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development starting this week. He was loved by myself and my staff. Luke was friendly, positive, eager to help where he was needed and enjoyed talking to Fourth District constituents on the phone, whether listening to their concerns or walking them through receiving assistance from my office to solve an issue. He was a remarkable young man with a bright future, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family, friends and loved ones have my sincerest condolences and prayers as they navigate this loss.”
