Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) today announced the names of four high school students from the Fourth District of Oklahoma who received and accepted appointments to one of the United States military service academies. The United States service academies provide for the undergraduate education and training of commissioned officers for the United States Armed Forces. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy all require a congressional nomination to be considered for appointment. Cole previously nominated these students for appointment consideration.
“I am proud to congratulate this impressive group of young leaders on their appointment to one of our nation’s esteemed military academies,” said Cole. “Like the generations that came before them, they have selflessly answered the call to serve our nation and defend the freedom we all cherish today. This is an extraordinary achievement, and I was glad to be part of this process.”
The list below includes the names, hometowns and high school information of the students, as well as the academies to which they have accepted appointments:
U.S. Air Force Academy
Alayna Cecrle, Oklahoma City – Westmoore High SchoolAvery Walls, Blanchard – Blanchard High School
U.S. Military Academy at West Point
Makenzie Lehman, Blanchard – Community Christian School*
Ian Leroux, Lawton – MacArthur High School*
*Note: Makenzie Lehman and Ian Leroux were both offered appointments to the U.S. Naval Academy as well.
