Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) has issued a statement following his vote in favor of H.R. 8281, known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The proposed legislation mandates that individuals provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections and permits states to remove noncitizens from voter registration rolls.
"During just his first 100 days in office, President Biden took 94 aggressive executive actions including halting border wall construction, removing successful immigration policies like Title 42 and Remain in Mexico, and reinstating Catch-and-Release, all of which have made it easier for illegal immigrants to enter and stay in our nation. Now, as a result of the Biden administration’s radical open-border policies and lax voter registration laws, more illegal immigrants than ever will have the opportunity to vote in federal elections across our nation this year," said Congressman Cole.
"It is crucial to the future of America that we do not let this happen – and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act does just that. This legislation will not only secure our elections but will also stop illegal immigrants from influencing the outcome of our elections," added Congressman Cole. "I am proud to have voted in favor of H.R. 8281 today, and I hope to see it continue to advance through the legislative process."
