Today, House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole from Oklahoma expressed his sorrow over the passing of Dave Hobson, a former member of the Appropriations Committee and once subcommittee chair of Energy and Water. Hobson was remembered fondly by Cole for his contributions to Congress and their long-standing friendship.

Cole recounted his first meeting with Hobson when he was a freshman Representative from Ohio. Their relationship spanned over three decades, during which Hobson provided guidance and support to Cole. "When I finally ran for Congress in 2002 Dave was one of the first Members of Congress to help me in the general election," said Cole.

Hobson's advice led Cole towards joining the Appropriations Committee, where he eventually became Chairman of one of its subcommittees. The two shared conversations about the committee while living in the same building in Alexandria. In 2008, despite a challenging political climate, Hobson assisted Cole during his tenure as NRCC Chair.

Cole praised Hobson as an old-school legislator who worked across party lines and focused on issues important to Americans. "Dave Hobson was one of those old school legislators who the media and most Americans beyond his constituents never know," remarked Cole.

In closing, Congressman Cole extended condolences to Carolyn, Hobson's wife, family, and friends. "We have lost a great public servant and a man of character," he stated.
