Today, Congressman Tom Cole introduced the Protect American Election Administration Act of 2025. The proposed legislation aims to prevent private entities from taking over government election administration and seeks to safeguard state voting laws. It also prohibits private funding for ballot harvesting or curing and the use of election infrastructure for ideologically driven voter outreach campaigns.

The bill has garnered support from six original co-sponsors: Representatives Virginia Foxx, Jake Ellzey, Claudia Tenney, Ryan Zinke, John Carter, and Tracey Mann.

Congressman Cole emphasized the importance of voting as a civic duty and a tool for change. He stated that "confidence in our election systems has decreased significantly" following issues observed during the 2020 presidential election. According to Cole, this legislation is intended to restore trust in the electoral process by ensuring that Americans believe their votes count.

The introduction of this act follows concerns raised about political influence in election administration during the 2020 elections. Private individuals with political agendas reportedly spent significant amounts on election administration offices, leading to insecure voting methods and targeted outreach campaigns favoring certain candidates. These efforts were allegedly concentrated in Democratic counties to boost turnout for Democratic candidates.
