Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) issued a statement today in remembrance of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that claimed 2,977 American lives. Reflecting on the events that transpired twenty-three years ago, Cole highlighted the profound impact of the attacks on the nation.
“On September 11, 2001, our world was changed forever when the United States of America was brutally attacked by senseless acts of terror at the World Trade Centers in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia, and a field in Pennsylvania,” said Congressman Cole. “Today, twenty-three years later, I would like to take time to remember, honor, and pray for the 2,977 American lives that were tragically and prematurely cut short, the families they left behind, the heroic first responders who bravely responded on that day and have continued to respond ever since, and the countless Americans who came together in the aftermath of that horrific day to support one another.”
Cole emphasized that despite the shattering impact on national security and safety perceptions following September 11th, America's resilience prevailed. “September 11, 2001 is a day I will truly never forget. Yet even though our nation’s sense of safety and security was shattered on that day," he noted. "We quickly showed the power of solidarity, resilience, and unity proving to the world that even on one of our darkest days we will always prevail – a notion that remains true to this day."
The congressman concluded his statement by urging continued remembrance and reflection while maintaining hope for future strength. “Therefore today we continue to stand together in solemn remembrance reflecting on and carrying forward lessons from this tragic day while also looking forward with hope and strength for future,” said Congressman Cole.
